Captain Amarinder Singh asked to step down and resigned from the Punjab CM post on Saturday. He met the Governor at Raj Bhavan and hand over him his resignation letter.
After a long-time, a Congress leader is about to quit the party and spoke to reporters about it. “I am feeling humiliated. I have been in politics for 52 years. I will talk to my supporters and then I will decide on my future in politics,” stated Captain Amarinder.
Earlier, the high commander of Congress Mrs. Sonia Gandhi asked Amarinder to step down and she facilitates the election of a new leader. The Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, however, refused to give in. By this morning, Amarinder Singh personally spoke to Sonia Gandhi and told her that he would resign from the party because of facing such kind of “humiliation”, sources said. Punjab goes to the polls for the early next year.
The AICC general secretary of Punjab, Mr. Harish Rawat, call the meeting at 5 pm in the evening today by a post on a tweet on Friday. Sunil Jakhar, the former PCC president who was once an associate of the Chief Minister, is one who is considered for the chief minister’s post, sources said.
After the year 1997, Badal completed his three terms as the CM of Punjab till 2017. Amarinder Singh interspersing as the Punjab CM from the year 2002 to 2007.
Captain Amarinder Singh is the second Congress leader who has been completed a full term as the chief minister of Punjab. He is the only CM from Congress who won consecutively two assembly elections after 1966, the formation of Punjab. Now, Punjab is due for polls of the assembly coming in February of the next year.
